Patrick Byker is a Durham real estate lawyer who advises clients on zoning, land use and municipal law, and real estate litigation throughout the Triangle. He works with developers, property owners, and businesses on securing governmental approvals for residential, commercial, mixed-use, and transit-oriented development projects, as well as disputes involving land use, property rights, and related real estate issues.
Patrick brings a distinctive perspective to his practice through his background in regional land use planning. In addition to his legal experience, he holds a master’s degree in regional planning, which informs his work navigating zoning, entitlement, and development-related issues. His experience includes advising clients on restrictive covenants, land use controls, development agreements, and the legal and regulatory frameworks that shape large-scale development projects.
He has worked on several transit-oriented development projects that included high-density residential and mixed-use developments that combined commercial, office, and residential, uses throughout the Triangle.
Prior to joining Morningstar Law Group, Patrick practiced at several national and regional law firms focusing on real estate, land use, and development matters.
Patrick has lived in Durham for more than 30 years and remains active in community and development-related organizations throughout the region.
