As one of our core principles, we believe that giving back to our community is central to the practice of law. From event sponsorships to pro bono legal services, we seek opportunities to demonstrate our commitment to public service. When selecting a project to commemorate our fifth anniversary, we turned to our clients—the people to whom we are most accountable—and were delighted when they chose the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina (CHS).
Founded in 1902, CHS’s model of service has changed throughout the decades, but the goal of providing stability, security, and support to the families and children of North Carolina has remained the same.
November is National Adoption Month, a campaign kicked off annually by presidential proclamation and designed to dispel the myths associated with fostering and adopting children. CHS will share 30 facts about adoption and foster care over the next 30 days. Some stats you may have missed:
- ● 40% of adopted children are of a different race, culture, or ethnicity than their adoptive parent
- ● 550 children age of out of foster care with little or no support
- ● CHS completed 6x more adoptions than any other private agency in NC
- ● 7 months is the approximate time it takes to become a licensed foster parent
The facts and figures can be disheartening, but CHS is in the business of nurturing and building up families, and that’s where we come in! While CHS’s goal is to find homes for kids in need, they also want to take time to reconnect and celebrate those families where children have been permanently placed. To do that, we invited over 85 former foster kids, their siblings, and parents to join our firm at Galaxy Fun Park this Thursday for games, trampolines, go-karts, laser tag, bumper cars, an indoor ropes course, and, of course, pizza.
